Words like green and sustainable have become engrained in our society’s vernacular over the past few year. But that doesn’t make them any less important today. Marion Street Cheese Market has expanded its business and scope with these ideals in mind. Here’s how we’re trying to do our part:
Chairs: Our chairs are crafted from manufacturer’s seatbelt remnants, saved from the landfill.
Walls: All millwork comes from certified, sustainable cherry wood grown in Midwest forests.
Floors: The floors are crafted from porcelain, are extremely durable and will last well over 20 years.
Bar Tops/Counter Tops: All made with recycled glass.
Linens: Chef coats are cleaned with organic green solvent and server aprons are made from organic cotton grown in California.
Food: Our produce comes from Green City Market and the Oak Park Farmers Market each week. We look for local and fair trade goods as well.
Coolers: Our coolers are energy star rated.
Recycling: Marion Street Cheese Market recycles glass and attempts to use compostable containers and cups.
Compost: We are working to become a Zero Waste Kitchen with a local group, Seven Generations Ahead. It will also include a composting program.
